Abstract

This paper focuses on the importance of the concepts of simulacra, simulation and hyperreality in the context of the interpretation of Devil’s Yard. Through the prism Baudrillard’s concept of simulacra and simulation, in this paper we explore how the postmodern identity and reality crisis are reflected in Andrić’s characters and their stories, immersed in a fictional world where the borders between the real and the fabricated become fluid. We’ll show how the ontological status of reality and the identity are undermined in Andrić’s narrative and what the relationship between the simulation and power is. In the end, we’ll show what role laws of simulation play in the conception of the story and narration as one of the central themes of Andrić’s work.
