Abstract

This paper will analyze Milosav Tešić’s poem ”The Sonnet of the Cornel Prior to Blooming”, from the book The Gift and the Curse (2006). We will approach the interpretation of this so far insufficiently studied song which occupies a meaningful place in the poem cycle The Forrest Sheaf. We will pay special attention to the norms of the sonnet as a form, according to which we expect that the poetic image set in the quatrains will be developed or negated on the level of meaning in the tercets, with the tension between the two larger groupings of verses achieved. It is our belief that this sonnet, which opens the second part of The Forrest Sheaf reflects a good deal of Tešić’s poetics, but also that, along with the denotative and connotative sense of the poetic image and poetic ”plot” of this sonnet, we can also speak of its metapoetic meaning.
