Abstract

In this paper, we approach Lazarevic’s short story Werther from an erotological standpoint. Such approach does not have established research methods, but it is a rather discursive and conceptual standpoint with a long tradition. Our literary reading of love consists of two angles. The first one implies the poetic aspect and the cultural-historical context. The second part of the work consists of a careful erotological reading of the text. The method of our research was tracing the main syuzhet thread and four junctions on it ‒ erothemes, as well as the ways in which eroticism was portrayed and talked about. It is primarily done through recognition of symbolic importance of nature and significant places in dialogues, monologues and narration. It can be said that the story deals rather with the nature of hero’s inner world and love feelings than with their manifestation. Although
the story is all about sentimental and romantic love, it can be said that the realistic course still prevailed in it.
