Abstract

This paper analyzes representations of female disability in the novel Čedomir Ilić. Disability serves as a focal point around which the narrative is formed (narrative prosthesis), characterizing the main protagonist and providing the novel’s central motivation (the first version of the novel was titled Lame Ideals). In the novel, disability is associated with physical disharmony, monstrosity, uprootedness, isolation, self-awareness, and a freer sexuality. Disability is viewed interdisciplinarily, and much like sexuality, it is considered both contextually and as a construct.
