Abstract

The fruitful influence of unity of opposites, as dominant constructive pattern of Aleksandar Tišma’s artistic word is analyzed on the example of Tišma’s poetically representative novels The Book of Blam and Kapo. These two creations in correlation, not only in terms of giving voice to the horrifying experience in the Second World War, but also with regard to crucial motives, stylistic models, narrative discourse and the type of literary characterization, illustrate the mechanism of the unity of opposites as a creative formative principle. Tišma’s tireless effort to reach out for the darkest abysses of the human soul with his prose works The Book of Blam and Kapo also reveals to us a modern literary approach to the unconscious domain of mental stream.
