Abstract

through a comparative analysis of their early novels On the Sunny Side and The Journal of Čarnojević. The results of our research showed that a textual dialogue can be established thanks to the typological affinity of the main characters and the peculiarity of the narrative instances. Using the psychoanalytic method, we devoted special attention to the characterization
of Toma Galus and Petar Rajić, considering them in the light of the time moment in which they were situated, their relationship to the metaphysical and topos puer senex. On the selected examples from the text, we pointed out the similarity of the multi-layered nature of their interior and world view, i.e. orientation towards the solar and celestial. Also, we have emphasized the complex narrative situation present in these novels, which implies the vacillation between three narrative forms (I, he and we) and the doubling of narrative perspectives, considering it in the context of the later narrative models of both authors. We
devoted part of the work to the reconstruction of the image of the world, burdened by the experience of the Great War and its consequences, and the ways in which the authors, with occasional irony and deconstruction, manage to portray the atmosphere of an era. Aware that the differences in comparative readings often outweigh the similarities, we tried to provide a new interpretation and show how important the poetic and thematic affinities of these novels are for understanding the further course of Serbian literature and the evolution of the poetics of Andrić and Crnjanski.
